Where to buy food and stuff?
Artists are responsible for their own food and cooking. There are two refrigerators in the cottage and a sink and kettle in the main studio. In terms of grocery stores, there are a few options. These are close to where you'd be crossing over from Ontario to Quebec:
OTTAWA: Wellington / Richmond Rd : you'll find grocery stores like Loblaws, Metro & Farm Boy, and local stores like bakeries, butcher shops, the Parkdale Farmer's market in the summer, coffee shops and much more! Look up neighborhoods like : Westboro and Wellington West.
AYLMER : There is a Provigeau and many more on upper Aylmer rd/ rue Principale in Aylmer QC.
GATINEAU (ALLUMETIÈRE BLVD) : The one stop location for groceries, pharmacy and fast food: The Plateau des grives. No link unfortunately.

A few notes on what to bring.
Along with the most important thing, your art supplies, here are a few other things you should bring:
SUMMER : Well, we have a beach, so a bathing suit or two is highly recommended. If you love the outdoors, clothing appropriate for hiking, walking, running, paddling. We also recommend insect repellent. Also, please note that air conditioning is only available in the large 2nd floor studio. Fans are available all over the house.
WINTER : The cottage stays pretty warm, but on those -30/-40 days it can get a bit chilly. Some warm socks and slippers, warm sweaters and again, for the outdoors, some warm clothes for outdoor activities.
How to get here if you don't have a car
If you do not have a vehicle, we can pick you up in Ottawa, Gatineau or Aylmer for a small fee of $20 added to your residency cost. The Cottage is about a 45 minute drive to Ottawa and a 20 minute drive to Aylmer QC. Please notify us upon acceptance and we will set up a pick up time and date. Please note that the time of pick up might be different than our check-in time of 12pm as we only have one vehicle. This service is only available on Sundays. Please make sure you have all the supplies and food required for the duration of your stay.
